Introducing the Green River Valley Alliance!

We are the Green River Valley Alliance! Founded by members of the Cascade Forest Conservancy, we are a group of concerned individuals, businesses, organizations, and policymakers who have united to fight against a proposed hardrock mine in the Green River Valley by Mount St. Helens. We believe that the construction of a mine in this area would devastate the local environment and wildlife, ruin incredible outdoor recreation opportunities, hurt the local economy, and possibly contaminate drinking water used by downstream communities.

The Green River Valley is beloved by many people from around the region and the surrounding area has a tremendous amount of cultural and historical significance, especially to the Cowlitz Indian Tribe and Confederated Bands of the Yakama Nation who have lived on this land for centuries. We come together from a wide variety of backgrounds and have formed this alliance to protect this incredible part of SW Washington. We hope to accomplish this by securing a mineral withdrawal for the Green River Valley, which would prohibit mining activities in the area while avoiding negative impacts to any other activities such as recreation, trail maintenance, or timber harvesting.

We are excited to be starting this new initiative to protect a place that is near and dear to the hearts of so many. Together we will secure permanent protections for the Green River Valley and show that this beautiful and irreplaceable landscape is #NoPlaceForAMine!
